After more than three decades of satirical brilliance and cultural commentary, The Simpsons is gearing up for another landmark chapter. Fox has officially confirmed that The Simpsons Season 37 will premiere on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at 8 PM ET/PT. The announcement comes as part of a broader four-season renewal that will carry the series through its historic 40th season in 2029.
A Historic Renewal to Celebrate an Iconic Franchise
On April 2, 2025, Fox and 20th Television Animation announced the show’s multi-season extension. The deal, which covers Seasons 37 to 40, solidifies The Simpsons’ position as the longest-running primetime scripted series in American television history. This renewal demonstrates the continued cultural relevance and widespread appeal of the Springfield family, even 36 years after the show’s 1989 debut.
Michael Thorn, President of Scripted Programming at Fox Entertainment, said in a statement, “We’re honored to continue this incredible partnership. The Simpsons is not only iconic, but it remains as creative and essential as ever.”

One of the most notable changes for The Simpsons Season 37 and beyond is a revised episode structure. According to showrunner Matt Selman, future seasons will consist of 17 episodes each, down from the traditional 22-episode count. Of these, 15 episodes will air on Fox, while two will be exclusive to Disney+.
Selman explained the shift during a press event at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, saying, “Fewer episodes mean more focus, more creativity, and less filler. It’s still a full-time job, but this allows us to make each episode matter.”
This strategy is also intended to align with changing viewer habits and the growing demand for streaming exclusives.
When and Where to Watch The Simpsons Season 37
The highly anticipated premiere is scheduled for Sunday, September 28, 2025, at 8 PM ET / 7 PM CT on Fox. New episodes will continue to anchor the network’s Sunday Animation Domination block, alongside Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, and others.
For streaming audiences, episodes will be made available on Disney+ and Hulu, with Disney+ also offering two exclusive episodes per season. Additionally, all previous seasons—1 through 36—are currently available on Disney+, which recently launched a 24/7 “Simpsons” channel to showcase classic episodes around the clock.

A Star-Studded Guest Lineup and Special Episodes
The Simpsons Season 37 is already generating buzz for its impressive slate of guest stars and special features. Confirmed appearances include Kieran Culkin, Glenn Howerton, Albert Brooks, Cole Escola, and real-life brothers Brendan and Domhnall Gleeson. Danny Pudi and Adam Pally will also lend their voices to episodes scheduled later in the season.
The season’s annual Halloween special, “Treehouse of Horror,” will feature Michael Keaton, Viola Davis, and Idris Elba, with experimental animation sequences directed by guest animator Stan Kelly.
Executive producer Al Jean also confirmed that the season will include character-centric storylines, featuring deeper dives into Springfield regulars like Superintendent Chalmers, Professor Frink, and the Quimby family.
The 800th Episode and Legacy Moments
One of the major milestones in The Simpsons Season 37 will be the 800th episode, expected to air in February 2026. Fox plans to celebrate the moment with back-to-back original episodes, including one musical installment and a parody set in a dystopian Springfield.
“The 800th episode will not just mark a number—it will be an event,” said series creator Matt Groening. “We’re planning something unforgettable.”
Groening also hinted at a multi-episode arc parodying prestige TV dramas such as Fargo, and teased a few international travel episodes featuring characters like Sideshow Bob and Comic Book Guy.

Commitment to Representation and Relevance
As in past seasons, The Simpsons Season 37 will continue addressing contemporary issues with its signature blend of wit and satire. LGBTQ+ representation, cultural shifts, and generational humor will remain central to the show’s evolving narrative.
Characters like Waylon Smithers and Patty Bouvier will continue to be featured prominently, with upcoming episodes exploring their relationships and roles within the Springfield community.
The Simpsons Season 37 promises to balance nostalgia with innovation. A reduced episode count, top-tier guest stars, exclusive Disney+ content, and milestone events like the 800th episode signal a creative resurgence for the show.
With streaming accessibility, a global fanbase, and multi-platform engagement, The Simpsons continues to defy time—and expectations.
