The political landscape in Delhi has turned volatile as AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of fostering “hatred” towards Delhi and its residents. Addressing a rally ahead of the February 5 Delhi elections, Kejriwal alleged that BJP’s neglect of the capital has led to rising crime rates, including robberies, chain snatchings, and gang wars, making the city unsafe, especially for women.
Kejriwal’s Allegations and Proposals
Kejriwal claimed that the BJP’s disregard has turned Delhi into the “crime capital of India” and accused them of orchestrating divisions among Purvanchal voters under the guise of Rohingya issues. He proposed that if AAP comes to power, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) would receive funds to hire private security guards, aiming to bolster safety without replacing the existing police force.
“BJP has not returned to power in Delhi for 25 years because of their hatred for the city and its people,” Kejriwal said, adding that the party has become a “dharna party” incapable of addressing real issues. He further accused the BJP of manipulating electoral rolls by registering “fake” voters from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in his New Delhi constituency.
BJP’s Retaliation and Protest Chaos
In response to Kejriwal’s accusations, BJP workers staged a large protest outside his residence on Feroze Shah Road. Protesters raised slogans against the AAP leader, and some attempted to breach security barricades. The Delhi police deployed water cannons to control the crowd and prevent escalation.
The BJP accused the AAP of spreading misinformation about voter registrations and claimed Kejriwal was using these allegations to divert attention from his government’s shortcomings.
Row Over Purvanchal Voters
Kejriwal’s formal complaint to the Election Commission alleged that BJP was orchestrating the addition of 13,000 fake voters in the electoral rolls between December 15 and January 8. The accusation has further strained the already contentious political atmosphere, with both parties exchanging sharp remarks in the media.
As Delhi gears up for the February 5 elections, tensions between AAP and BJP continue to rise, with the stakes higher than ever for both parties. The election results, set to be announced on February 8, will determine the future leadership of the capital city.
