A 17-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly sending bomb threat emails to several schools in Delhi, as confirmed by the police on Friday. The arrest follows a recent incident where at least seven private schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails just two days prior.
The minor, a class 12 student at a private school in Delhi, is believed to be part of a group of students responsible for sending these threats. The police revealed that the group had been targeting schools with bomb threat emails as part of a prank for some time.
The latest incident occurred on Wednesday morning, when the email was sent to multiple schools in south Delhi. The email claimed that powerful bombs were planted in each school and threatened to detonate during exams unless a ransom was paid.
Authorities traced the email’s origin to the suspect, who used a phone and a VPN to send the message. After questioning, the minor admitted that he and his friends had been sending such threats since the previous year to gain attention and make headlines.
The police are continuing their investigation and plan to question other members of the group. The authorities are also checking if the boys were involved in a similar incident in May 2024, where over 250 schools across Delhi-NCR received hoax bomb threat emails.
Police emphasize that the boys, all minors, were motivated by the desire to be in the news and sought attention through these disruptive pranks.
