As the Delhi Assembly elections draw closer, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its attacks on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leader, Arvind Kejriwal. On Saturday, the BJP unveiled a parody song and a satirical poster aimed at highlighting alleged corruption and extravagance under Kejriwal’s leadership.
The BJP released a song titled “Sheesh Mahal Aapda Failane Walon Ka Adda,” a spin-off of Honey Singh’s popular track Lungi Dance. Alongside the song, a poster was shared depicting Kejriwal’s face morphed onto the body of a Mughal ruler, captioned “AAP-da-e-Azam.” Both the song and poster were presented by Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva during a press conference and shared widely on the BJP Delhi unit’s social media accounts.
The ‘Sheesh Mahal’ Controversy
The BJP has repeatedly used the term “Sheesh Mahal” to criticize the lavish renovation of the official bungalow at 6, Flagstaff Road, previously occupied by Kejriwal as Delhi’s Chief Minister. Sachdeva accused Kejriwal of misusing taxpayers’ money to fund personal luxuries, calling it a betrayal of public trust.
The BJP has also coined the term “AAP-da” (disaster) to describe the AAP’s governance, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently echoing this sentiment at the Parivartan Rally in Rohini. Modi urged Delhi voters to replace the “disastrous” AAP with BJP leadership for better governance and development.
AAP’s Counterattack
In response, the AAP has accused the BJP of hypocrisy, pointing to expenditures on Prime Minister Modi’s official residence and travel. The political battle continues to heat up as Delhi gears up for a triangular contest between the AAP, BJP, and Congress.
Key Election Dates
Voting for all 70 Delhi Assembly seats is scheduled for February 5, with results to be declared on February 8. The BJP and Congress aim to unseat the AAP, which is seeking a third consecutive term in power.
