MUMBAI: On January 16, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, 54, was attacked during a burglary at his Bandra home in Mumbai. The intruder stabbed Khan six times, causing significant injuries near his spine, neck, and hands. Khan was promptly taken to Lilavati Hospital by his son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, where he underwent emergency surgery.
Dr. Nitin Dange, Chief Neurosurgeon at Lilavati Hospital, reported that Khan sustained a major injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to a lodged knife, leading to spinal fluid leakage. The surgical team successfully removed the knife and repaired the damage. Post-surgery, Khan is stable and has been moved from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to a special room. He has been advised to rest, with restricted movement for a week to prevent infection.
The attack occurred when Khan intervened in an altercation between the intruder and a female staff member. The assailant fled the scene immediately after the incident. Mumbai Police have detained a key suspect and are investigating potential collusion between the intruder and domestic staff, as CCTV footage suggests the burglar may have been hiding inside the house.
Khan’s wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their children were present during the incident but were unharmed. The family has requested privacy during this time. The incident has raised concerns about security measures for high-profile individuals in Mumbai, prompting calls for enhanced safety protocols.
