MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, 54, is recuperating after being stabbed multiple times during a home invasion at his Bandra residence in Mumbai on January 16, 2025. The assailant, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, was apprehended by Mumbai police in Thane on January 19.
The incident occurred in the early hours when Shehzad allegedly entered Khan’s 12th-floor apartment in the Satguru Sharan building with the intent to commit theft. A confrontation ensued between the intruder and a female staff member, prompting Khan to intervene. During the altercation, the actor sustained six stab wounds, including two deep injuries near his spine. He was immediately transported to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent a five-hour surgery to remove a 2.5-inch blade lodged in his thoracic spinal cord and to repair leaking spinal fluid. Hospital officials have confirmed that Khan is stable and out of danger.
Following the attack, Shehzad reportedly slept at a bus stop, changed his clothes, and traveled across Mumbai to evade capture. He was eventually tracked and arrested through CCTV footage and online transactions. Shehzad had illegally entered India and was living under the alias Vijay Das while working for a housekeeping agency. He now faces multiple charges, including violations under the Passport Act.
The attack has raised concerns about security within Mumbai’s film industry community. Khan’s wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two sons were present during the incident but were unharmed. The family has requested privacy as the investigation continues.
