The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday unveiled its second manifesto for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, making several significant promises for the city’s youth and education system. The party has vowed to provide free education from KG to PG in government educational institutions for needy students if they are voted to power.
Key Promises in BJP’s Second Manifesto
BJP National President and Union Minister JP Nadda launched the second part of the party’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ for the Delhi elections, with a particular focus on supporting the youth of the city. Among the highlights:
- One-time financial assistance of Rs.15,000 for youth preparing for competitive exams.
- Reimbursement of travel and application fees for competitive exams, up to two times.
- Free education for all needy students in government schools and colleges, extending all the way to post-graduate studies.
These promises aim to support Delhi’s youth in their educational and career aspirations, in a bid to compete with rival party AAP’s welfare-driven governance model.
BJP’s Commitment to Women and Senior Citizens
In addition to its focus on education, the BJP’s manifesto also highlighted several pro-women and pro-senior citizen measures, including:
- Rs.2,500 monthly aid for women under the ‘Mahila Samridhi Yojana’.
- Rs.21,000 financial assistance for every pregnant woman and six nutrition kits under the ‘Chief Minister Matritva Suraksha Yojana’.
- LPG cylinders at Rs.500 for low-income families, with free cylinders on festivals like Holi and Diwali.
- An increase in senior citizen pensions, from Rs.2,000 to Rs.2,500 for individuals aged 60-70, and from Rs.2,500 to Rs.3,000 for those aged 70 and above.
Other Promises and Initiatives
In line with its focus on public welfare, the BJP also promised to implement the Ayushman Bharat health scheme in Delhi, with an additional Rs.5 lakh coverage, and continue and improve existing welfare programs. The BJP’s manifesto places a strong emphasis on making these schemes more effective by removing corruption.
The Political Contest
With voting set for February 5, 2025, and vote counting scheduled for February 8, 2025, the Delhi elections will witness a triangular contest between the BJP, Congress, and the ruling AAP, which seeks a third consecutive term in power. While the AAP has not yet officially released its manifesto, it has already proposed several key schemes, including the continuation of free electricity, revamped government schools, and mohalla clinics.
As the battle for Delhi heats up, the BJP’s promises of free education, financial aid for competitive exams, and welfare for women and senior citizens are sure to shape the discussions leading up to the election. Stay tuned for further updates on the evolving election landscape.
