Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has reported a Rs.262 crore profit for the third quarter of the financial year, marking its first profit since 2007. The telecom giant attributes this financial success to strategic efforts focused on innovation, an aggressive network expansion, cost optimization, and improved customer service.
In a statement released alongside the quarterly results, BSNL Chairman and Managing Director, A. Robert J. Ravi, expressed satisfaction with the company’s performance. He highlighted that these results reflect BSNL’s commitment to innovation, customer satisfaction, and the expansion of its network infrastructure. Ravi added, “We are confident that our efforts will lead to further revenue growth, with an expected increase of over 20% by the end of the financial year.”
A major contributing factor to this positive result was the significant rise in revenue from key business segments. BSNL saw a 15% growth in its mobility services, an 18% increase in Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) services, and a 14% rise in revenue from leased lines compared to the same quarter last year. Additionally, the company reduced its finance costs and overall expenditure, leading to a reduction in losses by more than ₹1,800 crore compared to the previous year.
BSNL has also rolled out customer-centric innovations, such as National WiFi Roaming, BiTV (free entertainment for all mobile customers), and IFTV (offering free services for FTTH customers). These initiatives have played a crucial role in enhancing the customer experience, strengthening customer trust, and reinforcing BSNL’s position as a leading telecom service provider in India.
Key Factors Behind BSNL’s Profitability:
- Strong Revenue Growth: BSNL has experienced notable growth across critical sectors, including mobility, FTTH, and leased lines. This revenue boost has been fueled by increased demand for mobile services and high adoption of FTTH.
- Network Expansion: The company has significantly enhanced its network infrastructure, especially through the rapid rollout of 4G services, ensuring better service delivery to customers across the country.
- Customer-Focused Innovations: BSNL has introduced several new digital features aimed at improving the customer experience. The National WiFi Roaming service, for instance, provides seamless internet connectivity to users while traveling across various networks.
- Cost Optimisation: BSNL has implemented several operational improvements that have helped reduce its financial burden. The company has successfully minimized finance costs and controlled overall spending, leading to a reduction in losses by over ₹1,800 crore compared to the same period last year.
Future Growth Outlook:
Looking ahead, BSNL is confident about sustaining its growth momentum. The company is focusing on improving service quality, preparing for 5G implementation, and undergoing a digital transformation. BSNL anticipates that its revenue growth will exceed 20% by the end of the financial year, positioning the company for continued success in the telecom industry.
This impressive turnaround marks a significant milestone for BSNL, which has faced various challenges over the years. With its strategic efforts and innovations, the company is on track to secure a stronger future in India’s competitive telecom market.
