Chhaava Box Office Collection on Day 5: Vicky Kaushal’s Historical Film Slows Down, Grosses Rs.24.50 Crore

As Chhaava continues its journey in theaters, it remains a key film in Vicky Kaushal’s career, showcasing his versatility in a historical action role.

Breaking News

Vicky Kaushal’s historical drama Chhaava, directed by Laxman Utekar, continues to impress audiences, although its momentum at the box office seems to have slowed down on the fifth day of its release. The biographical film, which tells the story of Maratha king Sambhaji Maharaj, has earned over Rs.24 crore on day five, bringing its total collection to Rs.165 crore. Despite the slowdown, the film remains a significant success, having been praised for its performances, especially Kaushal’s portrayal of the legendary ruler.

Box Office Collection Update

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Chhaava accumulated Rs.24.50 crore on its fifth day, maintaining double-digit earnings despite a noticeable decline from its previous earnings. The film had seen a strong opening, grossing Rs.31 crore on its release day, followed by Rs.37 crore on day two and Rs.48.5 crore on day three. However, the fourth day’s earnings took a significant dip with Rs.24 crore, representing a 50.52% decline. This downward trend continued on day five, though the film still secured a respectable collection.

On day five, the film recorded an overall occupancy rate of 26.12% in Hindi, with footfall rates showing a drop across the day’s shows. Morning shows had an occupancy rate of 18.19%, followed by afternoon shows at 26.42%, and evening shows saw the highest footfall at 33.76%.

About the Film

Chhaava is an action-packed historical drama that chronicles the life of Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of the iconic Maratha ruler Shivaji. Vicky Kaushal takes on the role of Sambhaji, while Rashmika Mandanna plays his wife, Maharani Yesubai. The film also features Akshaye Khanna as the antagonist Aurangzeb, Ashutosh Rana as Sarsenapati Hambirao Mohite, and Divya Dutta as Soyarabai.

Based on the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant, the film’s music and score were composed by the legendary A. R. Rahman, with lyrics written by Irshad Kamil. Despite some critiques regarding its pacing and the “superherofication” of Sambhaji’s character, the film has resonated with viewers due to its portrayal of the Maratha king’s bravery and sacrifices. According to Hindustan Times, while Chhaava could have been a more powerful tribute to Sambhaji, its impactful moments occur when the film shows his human side, rather than just presenting him as a larger-than-life hero.

Call for Tax-Free Status in Maharashtra

In a bid to further support the film’s success, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has urged Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, to declare Chhaava tax-free in the state. This move could help increase the film’s accessibility and boost its box office performance in the region.

As Chhaava continues its journey in theaters, it remains a key film in Vicky Kaushal’s career, showcasing his versatility in a historical action role. Despite the slight dip in box office performance, the film’s strong start and cultural significance ensure that it will remain a point of discussion in the coming weeks.
