A man from Coimbatore made a surprising appearance at the Additional Family Court on Wednesday when he arrived with Rs.80,000 in coins to pay alimony to his estranged wife. The 37-year-old, who works as a call taxi owner and driver, had been ordered by the court to pay Rs.2 lakh in interim maintenance.

The man walked into the courtroom carrying two bags filled with Rs.2 and Re 1 coins, which added up to Rs.80,000. This unusual method of payment caught the attention of everyone present. A video showing the man leaving the court with the bags of coins and placing them in a car soon went viral on social media.

Upon noticing the unusual form of payment, the judge instructed the man to pay the amount in banknotes instead. The following day, the man complied with the order and submitted the Rs.80,000 in currency notes, as directed by the court.

The judge has also reportedly asked the man to pay the remaining ₹1.2 lakh of the interim maintenance amount promptly.
