A cold wave continues to intensify across northern India, with Delhi witnessing a significant drop in temperature on Thursday morning. The capital’s mercury plunged to 6.4°C, down from the 8-11°C range seen in recent days, as dense fog blanketed the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the minimum temperature could reach 5°C, with the maximum expected to hover around 21°C. Meanwhile, the air quality in Delhi remained in the “poor” category with an AQI of 287 early in the morning.
The cold wave is affecting much of north India, with temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh nearing freezing levels. In Himachal, parts of the state are facing bone-chilling cold, especially in the tribal Lahaul and Spiti districts. Tabo recorded a low of minus 13.6°C on Wednesday night. The IMD also issued warnings for the possibility of rain and snowfall in the mid and high hills of the region, with conditions expected to worsen over the weekend.
Kashmir also felt the bite of the cold, with temperatures dipping below freezing in many parts of the valley. Srinagar recorded a low of minus 1°C, while Gulmarg saw the coldest temperature at minus 9.8°C.
In addition, the IMD forecasted that the cold wave would continue to impact areas such as Punjab, Rajasthan, and Jammu-Kashmir in the coming days, with snowfall expected in some regions, including Himachal Pradesh.
