The Congress party has addressed the BJP’s criticism regarding its leaders’ absence during the immersion of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s ashes, stating that the decision was made to respect the family’s privacy.
Congress leader Pawan Khera clarified that senior leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, had visited Singh’s family after the funeral. He emphasized that the party chose not to accompany the family during the ashes immersion to provide them with the necessary privacy during this emotionally challenging time.
Singh’s ashes were immersed in the Yamuna River near the Majnu Ka Tila Gurdwara in New Delhi. His wife, Gursharan Kaur, and their three daughters—Upinder Singh, Daman Singh, and Amrit Singh—were present at the ceremony, along with other relatives.
The Congress party’s decision underscores its commitment to honoring the family’s wishes during a period of mourning.
