On Friday morning, dense fog enveloped Delhi, leading to significant disruptions at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). Over 100 flights experienced delays due to the reduced visibility caused by the fog.
Despite the challenging conditions, no flight diversions have been reported. Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) issued an advisory stating that while landing and takeoff operations are ongoing, flights not equipped with CAT III technology—which allows aircraft to operate in low-visibility conditions—may be affected. Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight information.
The dense fog has also impacted train services in the capital, with several trains running behind schedule. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that foggy conditions are expected to persist over the next few days, potentially leading to further travel disruptions.
In addition to the fog, Delhi’s air quality has deteriorated, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 351, categorized as “very poor.” This level significantly exceeds the “good” AQI range of 0-50, posing health risks to residents, especially those with respiratory conditions.
Airlines such as IndiGo and SpiceJet have alerted passengers to potential weather-related delays and advised them to verify flight schedules before heading to the airport. As the situation develops, travelers are encouraged to stay updated on weather forecasts and plan their journeys accordingly.
