Keerthy Suresh, who tied the knot with her long-time boyfriend Antony Thattil on December 12, 2024, has been spotted wearing a turmeric thread around her neck during promotional events for her latest film Baby John. Fans noticed her choice of the sacred thread instead of a gold mangalsutra and were curious about the reason behind it.
In a recent interview with Galatta India, Keerthy explained that the turmeric thread is a significant part of the post-wedding rituals, and it is not supposed to be removed until a certain auspicious date. According to tradition, after a few days, the thread is typically replaced by a gold mangalsutra. However, Keerthy revealed that she hasn’t found an auspicious date yet and will be replacing it with the gold chain towards the end of January.
She further shared that she enjoys wearing the thread with her promotional outfits, saying it “looks hot” and that she’s happy to flaunt it. Keerthy added that the thread is supposed to be sacred and powerful, and once replaced with the gold chain, it will look more traditional and less striking.
Keerthy, who married Antony in a traditional ceremony in Goa earlier this month, took to Instagram to share beautiful moments from their wedding, including the couple exchanging garlands and posing with their dog. The couple looked delighted as they celebrated their special day.
Meanwhile, Keerthy’s film Baby John, directed by Kalees and produced by Atlee, hit theaters on Christmas Day, with a stellar cast including Wamiqa Gabbi, Jackie Shroff, Rajpal Yadav, and a cameo by Salman Khan.
