In an exclusive photoshoot for HT City Showstoppers, actor Nimrat Kaur opened up about her fashion journey and how she navigates the world of trends while embracing her own glamorous side. Having moved to Mumbai from Delhi two decades ago, Nimrat’s relationship with fashion has evolved, though she admits that she initially didn’t pay much attention to it. “The world we lived in was very simple, and there wasn’t much focus on appearance. My understanding of fashion began quite late in life,” she shared.

Coming from an army background, Nimrat grew up observing the women in her family, particularly her mother and grandmother, dress with utmost elegance. “My mother was an army housewife, and my Nani ji always dressed very elegantly. I’ve always seen the women in the house dressed immaculately,” she recalls. However, Nimrat found her personal style much later, about five to seven years ago, when she began understanding her body type and how to dress to accentuate her features.

Now, Nimrat believes that fashion should be about wearing what makes you feel best. “It’s important to wear what enhances your features and makes you look and feel your best. I’ve learned over time what not to do and what works for me,” she explains. As for her fashion dos and don’ts, she advises against trying to be something you’re not, emphasizing comfort and appropriateness to the weather. “I’ve seen people wear leather boots in the summer – that’s a no-no,” she jokes. But when it comes to accessories, Nimrat is a fan of sunglasses and bags, items that can subtly transform any look.

Though her film roles have often showcased her in more grounded, relatable settings, Nimrat enjoys embracing her glamorous side during photoshoots. “It’s exciting to break the mold and see yourself in a different light. On a film set, you can only experiment so much, but in a photoshoot, I get to push myself and try new things. I rarely have a ‘no’ or ‘we can’t.’ That’s where I really enjoy myself,” she says.

When asked about her take on fashion trends, Nimrat admits that she enjoys observing them but only experiments with what suits her. “Trends are interesting, and if there’s something I feel like I can pull off, I’m happy to experiment. I really admire how women in the heartland of India carry themselves – they’re so original and celebrate their roots effortlessly. It’s inspiring to observe that,” she shares.

As she reflects on her 11-year career, which began with the highly praised film The Lunchbox in 2013, Nimrat describes her journey as “blessed.” Despite having fewer projects in her filmography compared to others, she feels deeply connected to her audience. “I’ve worked with the best in the business, and the love I’ve received from the audience means everything to me,” she says. Nimrat also sees herself as just getting started, feeling there’s always more to achieve.

Regarding her selective approach to projects, Nimrat explains that it doesn’t bother her. “I enjoy being on a film set, and when I’m not working, I travel. It rejuvenates me and brings a fresh perspective. I never want to feel burnt out. Maintaining a balance between work and personal life is important to me,” she concludes.

Nimrat Kaur’s thoughtful approach to both her career and her personal style demonstrates her commitment to growth, both professionally and personally. Her journey continues to inspire fans, proving that taking time to find your own voice can lead to truly rewarding experiences.
