A Forgotten Forest Rediscovered
Located along Siri Road, the dense forest remained off-limits for over four decades. It was architect Rahul Kadri, founder of IMK Architects and chairman of the Nepean Sea Road Citizens Forum, who rediscovered this green haven during the 2021 lockdown.
Kadri, reminiscing about his childhood walks through the forest, envisioned a way to reopen it to the public. “This area used to be accessible but was later sealed off. During the lockdown, I jumped over the fence, and it rekindled my desire to share this hidden gem with Mumbai,” he said.
Working alongside the BMC, Kadri played a key role in ensuring the forest could be enjoyed without disturbing its delicate ecosystem. This led to the concept of an elevated walkway, designed to let visitors experience nature while preserving its natural beauty.

Nisarga Unnat Marg takes inspiration from Singapore’s Tree Top Walk. The 704-meter-long elevated pathway allows visitors to walk among the trees, offering a breathtaking view of the city’s greenery. The structure ensures minimal disturbance to the forest floor, allowing flora and fauna to thrive.
