Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, has accused the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) of massive corruption in connection with the recent Combined Competitive Exams. Speaking out amidst widespread protests, Kishor claimed that “crores of rupees have changed hands” in the conduct of the exam and alleged that jobs were being “put on sale.” His comments come after thousands of candidates across Bihar protested the exam, demanding a re-examination due to allegations of a question paper leak.
The protests, which have seen nearly five lakh candidates participating, intensified over the weekend. On Sunday night, the Bihar police used water cannons and baton charges to disperse the demonstrators. In Patna, one exam center witnessed hundreds of candidates boycotting the test, claiming the question papers were leaked. However, the BPSC denied these allegations, accusing a “conspiracy” to have the exam canceled.
Kishor took to social media and spoke to PTI, criticizing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for being absent during the protests, as he was reportedly in the national capital, “having a good time.” Kishor questioned Kumar’s silence, pointing out that the CM had not commented on the protests when approached by the media.
Kishor further alleged that the BPSC’s reluctance to annul the exam stemmed from corruption, with money already exchanged for job posts. Despite these grave accusations, he expressed hope that a “positive outcome” would emerge, particularly after Bihar’s chief secretary, Amrit Lal Meena, agreed to meet with a delegation of students.
While Kishor defended his party colleagues from allegations of misconduct, claiming they had done nothing wrong during the protests, the political tension surrounding the issue continues to escalate, with students’ futures hanging in the balance.
