Kolkata: Arun Roy, a celebrated director in the Bengali film industry, has passed away at the age of 56. He succumbed to his prolonged battle with cancer, which he had been fighting for nearly one and a half years. Roy’s health had deteriorated recently, and he was admitted to RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata last month due to a severe lung infection. Despite the medical efforts, his condition worsened in the past few days, leading to his untimely death.
The director was widely known for his impactful films, including Bagha Jatin, in which he portrayed the life and sacrifices of Bengali revolutionary Jatindranath Mukherjee. Actor Dev, who played the lead role in Bagha Jatin, expressed his grief through a heartfelt message on social media. “You have gone too soon, friend. You were a person with a 24-carat gold heart,” Dev wrote, mourning the loss of his close friend and collaborator.
