Officials confirmed on Thursday that they have apprehended a 31-year-old man suspected of attacking Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan during an attempted robbery at his Mumbai residence. The intruder stabbed the actor multiple times during the early morning assault, and Khan is now recovering from his injuries.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, when an intruder attempted to rob Khan’s 12th-floor apartment in Bandra, Mumbai. According to medical professionals, Khan is receiving treatment for his wounds and is expected to make a full recovery.
Mumbai Police tracked down the suspect, identified as Aakash Kailash Kannojia, after receiving a tip-off about his location. Authorities learned that Kannojia was aboard the Jnaneshwari Express, a long-distance train operating between Mumbai’s Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and Kolkata Shalimar.
At approximately 12:30 PM, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Chhattisgarh received an alert from Mumbai Police. The police had shared a photograph of Kannojia along with details of his phone’s tower location, aiding the RPF in confirming his whereabouts. The suspect was traveling on the Jnaneshwari Express, which had crossed Rajnandgaon station en route to Durg.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) immediately dispatched two teams to Durg railway station, where they identified and detained Kannojia after cross-checking his image. They took him to the RPF Post in Durg for further questioning. Mumbai Police, alerted about the detention, are now en route to Durg to take the suspect into custody for further investigation.
Sources familiar with the investigation revealed that Kannojia was traveling in the general class carriage, situated directly behind the train’s engine. Authorities had initially tried to locate the suspect at Rajnandgaon station, but he had already moved past the area. The RPF swiftly captured the suspect without further incident.
Mumbai Police are conducting a thorough investigation into the case and expect to release further updates as they progress. They are still determining the motive behind the attack, but it appears to have been an attempted robbery that went wrong.
This dramatic turn of events highlights the collaboration between different law enforcement agencies across states. The Railway Protection Force’s quick response, coupled with the Mumbai Police’s assistance, was pivotal in ensuring the swift arrest of the suspect.
As the investigation unfolds, further details regarding Kannojia’s background and his connection to the attack will likely emerge.
