UP School Students Create Innovative Safety Sandal with SOS Feature for Women’s Protection

Two students from Uttar Pradesh designed an innovative sandal with a built-in SOS feature to protect women, sending distress alerts during emergencies. Affordable and accessible, the sandal is a step forward in women's safety.

Breaking News

In a groundbreaking development, two students from Uttar Pradesh have designed a sandal equipped with a built-in SOS alert feature to enhance women’s safety. This invention adds to the growing list of safety tools aimed at helping women in distress, but what makes it stand out is that it was created by young students.

The sandal has been designed by Amrit Tiwari and Komal Jaiswal, both students at RPIC School in Siswa Bazar, Maharajganj district, Uttar Pradesh. The sandal features a discreet button placed under the toe that can be pressed in times of emergency to send an SOS alert.

How It Works: SOS at Your Fingertips

The sandal connects to a mobile application, allowing users to program the alert to be sent to pre-designated contacts such as family members or trusted friends. The alert includes the wearer’s location and audio recording, giving recipients a clear understanding of the situation and the surrounding sounds, which could be crucial in determining the urgency.

Future Plans and Enhancements

In an interview with News18, Amrit Tiwari shared that the future plans for the sandal include adding a camera, allowing not only location and audio but also visual footage to be sent. This would provide more comprehensive information to the recipients, helping them assess the situation more effectively.

Safety for Women, Empowering Design

One of the sandals in each pair has the ability to generate enough electricity to immobilize an attacker momentarily without causing harm to the wearer, providing an added layer of protection. This feature is designed to stop an attack while the wearer can escape to safety.

Affordable and Accessible

The sandals are priced at Rs.2,500 per pair, making them an affordable and practical solution for women’s safety. This low cost makes it an accessible option for many, and the innovation has caught the attention of the Science and Technology Department of the Government of India, which has expressed interest in the design.

This innovative invention not only highlights the creative potential of young minds but also presents a promising step forward in enhancing safety measures for women in everyday life.
