The Indian government’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a critical warning for Apple users, advising them to update their devices immediately. The alert highlights two severe vulnerabilities that could leave iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, and other Apple products open to potential hacking attacks, resulting in unauthorized access, data theft, or control of the affected systems.
The vulnerabilities, affecting devices running older versions of Apple software, have been classified as “high severity.” CERT-In’s advisory targets several Apple products, including iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, Apple Watches, and Apple TVs, among others. Specifically, the flaws are found in the following software versions:
- iOS and iPadOS versions prior to 18.1.1 and 17.7.2
- macOS Sequoia versions prior to 15.1.1
- Safari versions prior to 18.1.1
- Apple VisionOS versions prior to 2.1.1
Hackers could exploit these issues to execute arbitrary code or launch cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks by sending malicious web content, with Safari users being particularly vulnerable. CERT-In explained that these vulnerabilities present significant risks, including unauthorized access to sensitive user information, denial of service, and data manipulation.
Apple has already rolled out patches to fix these vulnerabilities. CERT-In urges users to update their devices to the latest versions of the affected software immediately. iPhone and iPad users should upgrade to iOS 18.1.1 or 17.7.2, while MacBook users must install macOS Sequoia 15.1.1. Safari users should update to version 18.1.1, and Apple VisionOS users should update to version 2.1.1 to safeguard their devices.
