New Delhi: The Ministry of Ayush proudly hosted the 10th National Ayurveda Day celebrations at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa on September 23, 2025. The event was graced by several dignitaries including the Governor of Goa Shri Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush Shri Prataprao Jadhav, and Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shri Shripad Yesso Naik.
Ayurveda’s Global Growth and Goa’s Potential
Governor Shri Ashok Gajapathi Raju highlighted Ayurveda’s remarkable growth as a global health movement, embraced now by over 150 countries. Praising the theme “Ayurveda for People and Planet,” he connected the celebration to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Shri Raju pointed to Goa’s potential as a global hub for Ayurveda-based wellness tourism and commended integrative initiatives like the Oncology Unit at AIIA Goa, blending Ayurveda with modern cancer care. He stressed the importance of preserving local medicinal plants and incorporating scientific validation to strengthen the Ayurvedic ecosystem and regional economy.
Ayurveda Addressing Lifestyle and Environmental Challenges
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant emphasized Ayurveda’s critical role in managing modern lifestyle disorders such as obesity and diabetes through age-old preventive practices like Dinacharya and Ritucharya. He lauded the biodiversity of the Western Ghats and Goa’s coastal ecosystems as vital sources of medicinal plants essential to Ayurvedic formulations. The signing of a tripartite MoU between Government of Goa, Tata Memorial Centre, and AIIA for integrative oncology research was announced as a progressive step toward holistic healing.
Digitalization and Preventive Healthcare Initiatives
Union Minister of State Shri Prataprao Jadhav highlighted the historic decision to fix September 23 as Ayurveda Day, aligning it with the autumnal equinox symbolizing natural balance. He spoke of the exceptional response to last year’s “Desh ka Swasthya Parikshan” campaign, involving over 1.29 crore participants and setting five Guinness World Records. The emphasis on integrating traditional knowledge with modern healthcare to promote predictive, preventive, and personal medicine was underscored.
Environmental and Health Sustainability
Minister Shri Shripad Yesso Naik celebrated Ayurveda’s contribution toward tackling global health issues and environmental degradation. He affirmed Ayurveda’s alignment with natural living, preventive care, and ecological sustainability and praised Goa’s initiatives and the collaborative integrative oncology model. The Minister invited widespread support for government campaigns promoting health, cleanliness, and women’s empowerment.
Launches and Awards
The event featured the inauguration of the Integrative Oncology Unit, launch of the nationwide Desh ka Swasthya Parikshan campaign, and a new DRAVYA digital portal for Ayurvedic substances. The Ran-Bhaji Utsav, celebrating forest vegetables aligned with Ayurvedic diets, was also launched. Prestigious National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Awards 2025 were conferred on eminent contributors to Ayurveda and allied sciences.
