In a significant move against corruption, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) of Pakistan has dismissed 35 of its officers for their involvement in human trafficking activities, an official statement revealed on Wednesday.
The decision came after an internal probe conducted by the FIA in connection with recent boat incidents and human smuggling cases. A total of 49 FIA officials were scrutinized, with 35 found guilty of being involved in illegal human trafficking operations. Criminal cases have been registered against 13 of these officers, further highlighting the seriousness of the charges.
The investigation was carried out under the direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who ordered FIA Director General Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir to hold departmental hearings for the implicated officials. The case stems from the ongoing battle against human trafficking and its devastating impact on vulnerable individuals, including those attempting to cross borders illegally.
The action comes as part of the government’s broader efforts to crack down on corruption within law enforcement agencies and ensure greater accountability in public service. The dismissal of these officers sends a strong message about the country’s commitment to tackling human trafficking and ensuring justice for victims.
