Amit Singh, Public Relations Officer of NCR Prayagraj Division, explained that the accident took place when the Netaji Express, passing through the main line, struck the passengers who had descended onto the tracks. “Despite the presence of a foot overbridge, people were crossing from the wrong side, which led to this unfortunate tragedy,” he stated.

In its official statement, Indian Railways reiterated that the accident could have been avoided if passengers had used the designated foot overbridge. “Train no. 13309 (Chopan–Prayagraj Express) had stopped at platform 4 when some passengers chose to get down on the wrong side. At the same moment, Train no. 12311 (Netaji Express) passed through the main line, leading to the fatalities,” the statement read.
