New Delhi – The central government has officially announced “Naya Bharat” as the defining theme for the upcoming 79th Independence Day celebrations scheduled for August 15. This carefully chosen theme represents India’s ambitious vision to build a prosperous, secure, and self-reliant nation while progressing toward the government’s transformative goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Prime Minister Modi to Lead Red Fort Ceremonies

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will spearhead the 79th Independence Day celebrations by hoisting the national flag at the historic Red Fort and delivering his address to the nation. The ceremonial proceedings will commence with the Prime Minister’s arrival at the iconic venue, where he will be formally received by key government officials including Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.

Following the official reception, Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, General Officer Commanding of the Delhi Area, will escort the Prime Minister to the Saluting Base for the traditional general salute and comprehensive Guard of Honour inspection, marking a significant moment in the 79th Independence Day observances.

Indian Air Force Takes Coordinating Role

This year’s 79th Independence Day celebrations will be uniquely coordinated by the Indian Air Force, marking a special distinction for the national event. The Air Force’s leadership role will be prominently displayed through various ceremonial elements, including a meticulously planned flypast carrying both the national flag and the Operation Sindoor flag, symbolizing recent military achievements and national pride.

The ceremonial proceedings will feature a traditional 21-gun salute synchronized with the flag hoisting ceremony, executed with indigenous 105mm Light Field Guns by the 1721 Field Battery (Ceremonial), demonstrating India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense capabilities during the 79th Independence Day celebrations.

Elaborate Guard of Honour and Military Participation

The 79th Independence Day Guard of Honour will showcase India’s military prowess through the participation of 96 personnel commanded by Wing Commander AS Sekhon. This impressive formation will include one officer and 24 members each from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, and Delhi Police, representing the comprehensive security apparatus that protects the nation.

A total of 2,500 boy and girl cadets from Army, Navy, and Air Force wings, along with dedicated ‘My Bharat’ volunteers, will actively participate in the festivities, seated strategically on Gyanpath opposite the Rampart.

These young participants will create a living representation of the ‘Naya Bharat’ logo, symbolically embodying the theme and future aspirations of the nation during the 79th Independence Day proceedings. The performances will be executed by bands representing various security forces including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, NCC, CRPF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, BSF, IDS, RPF, and Assam Rifles at over 140 prominent locations throughout India, ensuring the 79th Independence Day spirit reaches every corner of the nation.

Special Guest Participation and Cultural Representation

The 79th Independence Day celebrations will welcome approximately 5,000 special guests from diverse walks of life to witness the historic Red Fort ceremony. Additionally, over 1,500 people representing various states and Union Territories will attend the celebration dressed in traditional attire, showcasing India’s rich cultural diversity and unity in diversity principle.
