JAMMU: The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project achieved a pivotal milestone with the successful completion of final speed trials on the Katra-Banihal section. This development brings the Kashmir Valley closer to direct rail connectivity with the rest of India.

The trials included high-speed tests over engineering marvels such as the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge, and the Chenab Rail Bridge, the world’s highest railway bridge. These tests are crucial for ensuring the safety and operational readiness of the route.

The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) conducted these inspections as part of the mandatory safety assessments. The data collected will inform the final decision on commencing regular train services. Upon receiving CRS approval, the inauguration of train services is anticipated, potentially featuring Vande Bharat Express trains to enhance travel between Kashmir and other regions.

This advancement signifies a new era of connectivity for the Kashmir Valley, promising to boost economic growth and facilitate regional integration by providing seamless rail access to the rest of the country.
