Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed sci-fi masterpiece Interstellar is set to return to Indian cinemas on February 7, marking the film’s 10th anniversary. After months of delay, the re-release will also include screenings in IMAX format, providing fans the opportunity to experience the epic on the big screen once again.
The film originally re-released in the US in December 2024, but the availability of IMAX screenings was limited due to the overwhelming success of Pushpa 2: The Rule, the Telugu action blockbuster that dominated the box office.
Warner Bros. India shared the exciting news on their official X handle, unveiling the re-release poster with the caption, “The stars are aligning again! Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar returns to cinemas in India and also in IMAX on February 7. Upon its re-release in the US, Interstellar soared to the ninth spot in the all-time highest-grossing IMAX films, earning $4.5 million across 166 screens. Its success was remarkable, with some theaters reporting up to $70,000 in revenue per screen—one of the highest averages of the year. Many fans were willing to pay steep prices to secure tickets, further proving the film’s enduring appeal.
Christopher Nolan expressed his gratitude for the ongoing success of the film in an interview with the Associated Press, stating, “It’s really thrilling when people respond to your work at any point. But 10 years later, to have new audiences coming and experiencing it in the way that we’d originally intended it on the big IMAX screens… it’s really rewarding to see that it continues to have a life.”
Interstellar follows a group of astronauts, led by Matthew McConaughey’s character Cooper, as they journey through a wormhole near Saturn in search of a new home for humanity. The film, which also stars Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and Matt Damon, won five Academy Awards in technical categories and remains a favorite among science fiction enthusiasts.
