Priyanka Gandhi Slams Government for Prioritizing Publicity Over Progress

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticizes the government's focus on PM Modi's publicity over youth welfare, highlighting the suspension of the NTSE scholarship and urging dialogue with protesting farmers.

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has accused the Central government of prioritizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal publicity over the welfare of young students. She highlighted the suspension of the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) scholarship, a program initiated in 1963 to support bright students in pursuing higher education.

Gandhi Vadra pointed out that the NTSE scholarship has been halted for the past three years, depriving many aspiring students of opportunities. She contrasted this with the government’s expenditure, stating that while ₹62 crore was spent on the Prime Minister’s public relations during this period, only ₹40 crore would have been required to fund the scholarships.

“The Prime Minister’s PR dominates the vision of progress,” she remarked, emphasizing that the discontinuation of scholarships has closed the path to a bright future for numerous youths, whereas the Prime Minister’s publicity efforts have continued unabated.

In a related context, Gandhi Vadra recently expressed concern over the deteriorating health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike. She urged Prime Minister Modi to engage in dialogue with the farmers, accusing the government of displaying ‘cruelty’ towards them.
