AAP Accuses BJP of Voter Registration Fraud Ahead of Delhi Elections

Alleges submission of fake applications from leaders' addresses to mislead Election Commission

Breaking News

NEW DELHI: In the lead-up to the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has leveled serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of engaging in voter registration fraud to deceive the Election Commission (EC).

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh claimed that the BJP has been submitting multiple fraudulent voter registration applications using the residential addresses of its leaders. He highlighted instances where dozens of applications were filed from single small shops and basements, suggesting a coordinated effort to manipulate voter rolls.

Singh specifically named several BJP leaders, including Union ministers, alleging their involvement in the scheme. He accused Union Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, and Union Minister Kamlesh Paswan of submitting applications to register 26 votes each at their respective addresses. Singh also mentioned Pravesh Verma, the BJP candidate from New Delhi, alleging that he applied to register 33 votes at his bungalow’s address.

“This is the reality of the biggest political party in India. This is how Prime Minister Modi’s party plans to win the elections,” Singh stated. He further accused the BJP of undermining the integrity of the Election Commission, describing the actions as an “election scam” orchestrated by Union ministers and MPs.

In response, the BJP has countered with allegations against AAP. BJP Delhi president Virendra Sachdeva accused AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal of attempting to register large numbers of votes from the addresses of party workers in certain constituencies. Sachdeva claimed that these votes belong to individuals who do not reside in Delhi and would “suddenly show up to cast their vote on the election day.” He indicated plans to file a formal complaint with the Election Commission.

The issue of voter addition and deletion has become a significant point of contention in the upcoming assembly polls. AAP has accused the BJP of orchestrating the deletion of votes in its strongholds, while the BJP alleges that AAP is facilitating illegal voter registrations, including those of non-residents.

Delhi is set to go to the polls on February 5, with the counting of votes scheduled for February 8. As the election date approaches, both parties continue to exchange accusations, intensifying the political climate in the capital.
