West Bengal: A tragic incident at Midnapore Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) has left one woman dead and four others in critical condition following childbirth. The state health department has launched an investigation, forming a 13-member panel to probe the matter.
The deceased woman, who delivered her baby on Wednesday, passed away on Friday. Her family has alleged that expired Ringer’s Lactate (RL) intravenous fluid administered at the hospital caused her death. A formal complaint has been lodged at the Kotwali police station.
The families of other affected women have also raised concerns, prompting the hospital to collect RL samples for analysis. Officials are awaiting a report from the drug control department to determine if the expired fluid played a role in the complications.
“The baby delivered by the deceased woman remains under medical care at MMCH,” a hospital representative stated.
The health department has assured a thorough investigation into the allegations, with findings from the panel and drug analysis expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This tragedy underscores the critical need for stringent quality control and monitoring in healthcare facilities.
