The fires, which have affected vast areas of Southern California, led to the charging of nine individuals with looting in areas impacted by the Palisades and Eaton fires.
L.A. County District Attorney Nathan Hochman made a firm statement, warning that authorities would prosecute anyone caught looting. “If you exploit this tragedy to prey on victims of these deadly fires, we will find you and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law,” Hochman declared, a sentiment that Roberts echoed in her response.
The Oscar-winning actress shared her feelings on Instagram, posting a blunt message: “F.U. looters.” Along with her strong words, she also used her platform to raise awareness about relief efforts. Roberts shared a message about the SoCal Fire Fund, launched by several organizations, including the California Arts Foundation and Core Response, to provide both immediate and long-term support for those affected by the fires.
The wildfires, which began on January 7 in the Pacific Palisades, have taken a tragic toll, claiming at least 24 lives and displacing many others. High-profile figures, including Tina Knowles, Paris Hilton, and Anthony Hopkins, have also suffered damage to their properties. As of January 12, three major wildfires continue to ravage Los Angeles, with the largest blaze having scorched over 20,000 acres and remaining only partially contained.
Despite the ongoing danger, local fire departments continue to work tirelessly to control the blazes and prevent further destruction.
