Opposition Leaders React to Saif Ali Khan’s Attack
The recent stabbing incident involving Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his Mumbai residence has drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders in Maharashtra. NCP chief Sharad Pawar, along with other political figures, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, arguing that even celebrities are no longer safe.

Pawar, speaking in Baramati, Pune, stated, “This incident highlights the worsening law and order situation in the state. Just recently, a person was killed in the same area, and now we are witnessing this attack on a prominent celebrity. These developments are deeply troubling.”

Pawar pointed out that the attack on Khan follows a string of other violent incidents in the region, including the killing of former state minister Baba Siddique in October. He emphasized that the state government, particularly Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the home portfolio, must address these security concerns with greater urgency.
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut also weighed in on the issue, stating, “This attack proves that no one is safe. Not just common people, even celebrities, who have their own security teams, are vulnerable.” Raut highlighted that Saif Ali Khan, a Padma Shri awardee, had recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscoring his prominence and the shock of such an attack on him.

Raut further criticized the state government, accusing it of prioritizing the protection of politicians, especially those who have recently switched parties, over the safety of citizens and public figures. “Police forces are mostly deployed for the protection of political figures. There is no fear of law enforcement. The government stands exposed,” Raut added.
Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe echoed these concerns, pointing to incidents in Beed, where a village sarpanch was murdered for opposing extortion attempts. Londhe remarked, “The administration seems to be working for anti-social elements, as evidenced by recent events like the attack on Saif Ali Khan and the installation of bulletproof windows at Salman Khan’s residence.”
Salman Khan, another Bollywood superstar, had recently reinforced his home security after an attempted shooting by members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Londhe’s comment emphasized the growing insecurity for even high-profile individuals in Mumbai’s so-called “high-security zones.”

Londhe also pointed out the growing insecurity among ordinary citizens, stating, “If celebrities like Saif Ali Khan and Salman Khan, who live in well-guarded areas, are attacked, it speaks volumes about the failure of the government in maintaining public safety.” He also referenced recent violence in Nagpur, the hometown of Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis, noting that numerous murders and rapes had occurred there in the past week.
Londhe concluded by asserting that Fadnavis had failed to protect citizens and maintain law and order in Maharashtra.
Opposition Calls for Stronger Police Action
NCP Lok Sabha member Supriya Sule expressed her concern over the attack, labeling it as “worrisome” and underscoring the need for a more secure environment. Former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh also condemned the incident, calling it “unfortunate,” and urged the police department to take immediate and stringent action.
Deshmukh added, “It is the responsibility of the government to provide an environment free from fear for artists and citizens alike.”
