Mumbai: A road rage incident in Mumbai’s Malad East turned deadly when a 28-year-old man, Akash Maeen, was brutally beaten to death in front of his parents and wife. The tragic altercation occurred on Saturday evening, October 14, 2024, near Pushpa Park when an auto-rickshaw driver collided with Akash’s bike during an overtaking maneuver.
What began as a verbal argument between Akash and the auto driver quickly escalated into violence. After the auto driver left, a group of men gathered in support of him, brutally attacking Akash. Shocking video footage captured the horrifying moment as his father tried to intervene and his mother, in a desperate attempt to protect her son, lay over his body, shielding him from the assailants.
Akash was rushed to a nearby hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries later that night. The incident has caused widespread outrage, and the Dindoshi Police have arrested nine individuals in connection with the murder. The accused have been charged under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with police custody extended until October.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray expressed deep grief over the incident, condemning the lack of law and order on Mumbai’s streets. Akash, an MNS worker, was described as a “dedicated young man” by local party members. The video has sparked a broader conversation about public safety and mob violence, with many questioning how such brutality could unfold in broad daylight on the streets of a major city like Mumbai.
