BTS leader Kim Namjoon, also known as RM, has shared a heartfelt and humorous update with his fans on the South Korean platform Weverse, revealing his promotion to Sergeant in the military. RM shared his post on February 1, 2025, and it quickly caught the attention of BTS fans, who were touched by his candid reflections on his military life.
In his message, RM greeted his fans with warmth, saying, “Hello, everyone whom I love relentlessly. Did you spend your Lunar New Year well? Did you have some rice cake soup?” before diving into a playful reflection on his age. Joking about the passage of time, he said, “I have no idea what I’ve been up to, but I’m already 32. As I persistently try to use international age to say that I’m actually 30, the reality hits me that I’m an uncle. He even mentioned how, in the past, people used to subtract five years from their age when they turned 30 in Korea.
The post wasn’t just about humor, though. RM also expressed his growing anticipation for life after the military, hinting at his excitement to reconnect with fans and continue his career as a civilian. He revealed that his discharge date is set for June 10 and eagerly looked forward to sharing more with his fans once he concludes his service.
To accompany the message, RM included a selfie of himself in his military uniform, with a black muffler covering the lower half of his face, giving fans a glimpse of his current life. Despite the military setting, his lighthearted tone and eagerness for civilian life were unmistakable.
RM’s post quickly went viral, with fans flooding social media to express their reactions. Many fans shared their excitement, with one commenting, “Brb sobbing as I post this i’ve missed him and his beautiful words so much.” Another fan humorously observed, “Namjoon constantly letting us know how much he hates the military and is jealous of civilian life, just counting down the days until he’s free.” A third fan playfully added, “Namjoon throughout his Weverse letter: omg I’m a sergeant now! But you know what’s better? A civilian! I want to be civilian!! PLEASE LET ME BE A CIVILIAN!!”
RM’s post comes after he enlisted in December 2023, alongside fellow member Kim Taehyung. With Jin and J-Hope now back in civilian life and releasing new music, fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the entire group later this year. RM’s heartfelt and humorous update has only added to the excitement surrounding BTS’s much-anticipated reunion.
