Hyderabad: In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through Hyderabad’s business community, grandson stabs industrialist 73 times namely VC Janardhan Rao and he was brutally murdered by his grandson, 28-year-old Keerthi Teja, over a property dispute. The gruesome attack occurred on the night of February 6, 2025, at Rao’s residence in Somajiguda, where he was stabbed 73 times.
Rao, the Chairman and Managing Director of the ₹460-crore Veljan Group of Companies, had recently appointed his eldest daughter’s son, Srikrishna, as a director in the company. He had also transferred shares worth ₹4 crore to Teja, the son of his second daughter, Sarojini Devi. Despite these allocations, tensions simmered within the family regarding the distribution of assets.
On the fateful evening, Teja and his mother visited Rao’s residence. While Sarojini Devi was in the kitchen preparing coffee, an argument erupted between Rao and Teja concerning the property’s division and grandson stabs industrialist 73 times. When Sarojini Devi attempted to intervene, she sustained four stab wounds and was later hospitalized.
Following the attack, Teja fled the scene. He was apprehended by the police near the Panjagutta flyover on February 9, 2025. Authorities have recovered the murder weapon and are conducting further investigations. Preliminary findings suggest that Teja harbored resentment towards his grandfather, accusing him of neglect and unfair treatment in matters of inheritance.
