NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has intensified its criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the prolonged delay in announcing Delhi’s new Chief Minister following the recent assembly elections. Senior AAP leader and acting Chief Minister Atishi stated that the BJP’s hesitation indicates a lack of a credible leader to govern the national capital.
“It’s been over a week since the election results were declared. The people expected the BJP to promptly announce its Chief Minister and cabinet to commence developmental work. This delay suggests they have no suitable candidate to lead Delhi,” Atishi remarked during a press conference.
The BJP secured a significant victory in the Delhi assembly elections, winning 48 out of 70 seats, marking its return to power in the city after 27 years. Despite this majority, the party has yet to finalize its Chief Ministerial candidate, leading to criticism from both AAP and the Congress party.
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Devender Yadav also expressed concerns over the delay, attributing it to internal power struggles within the BJP. “The people of Delhi elected the BJP with an overwhelming majority, expecting efficient governance. The undue delay in appointing a Chief Minister reflects internal conflicts, which is unacceptable,” Yadav commented.
In response to these allegations, BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor dismissed the claims, stating that the decision regarding the Chief Minister will be made in due course with the consent of the top leadership. He urged opposition parties to refrain from making baseless accusations and to respect the party’s decision-making process.
As the anticipation grows, all 48 BJP MLAs are expected to meet with the party’s national leadership in the coming days to finalize the Chief Ministerial candidate. This meeting aims to resolve internal deliberations and expedite the formation of the new government in Delhi.
