Delhi Assembly Session Begins with MLAs Taking Oath in Six Languages, Showcasing Linguistic Diversity

From Sanskrit to Urdu, MLAs Reflect Delhi’s Cultural Mosaic as BJP Returns to Power After 26 Years

Breaking News

New Delhi: The newly constituted Delhi Assembly commenced its first session on Monday, with Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) taking their oaths in six languages—Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Urdu, Maithili, and Punjabi. This multilingual oath-taking ceremony highlighted the linguistic and cultural diversity of the national capital’s legislature.

The session also marked a significant political shift as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) returned to power in Delhi after 26 years. BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely, the senior-most legislator, was sworn in as the pro-tem Speaker of the eighth Assembly. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena administered the oath at Raj Niwas before the session began. Lovely oversaw the swearing-in of all newly elected MLAs, symbolizing the BJP’s transition to the right side of the Speaker’s chair.

The use of Sanskrit and Urdu, in particular, drew attention as MLAs embraced India’s rich linguistic heritage. Sanskrit, often regarded as the mother of Indian languages, and Urdu, a language deeply rooted in Delhi’s history, underscored the Assembly’s commitment to inclusivity.

This session sets the stage for the BJP’s governance agenda in Delhi, focusing on infrastructure, education, and healthcare. The multilingual oath-taking ceremony not only celebrated Delhi’s diversity but also reinforced the democratic values of unity in diversity.
