The Himachal Pradesh government has greenlit an Rs.80 crore aerial ropeway project connecting Kullu Bus Stand to Peej Paragliding Point, aiming to boost tourism and provide seamless access to the region’s premier paragliding destination.

The 1.20-kilometer ropeway will offer tourists a safe and efficient route to Peej village, currently a 12-kilometer journey by road from Kullu. This initiative is poised to transform Peej into a hub for adventure enthusiasts, particularly paragliders, by improving accessibility and reducing travel time.

Peej village serves as the gateway to the picturesque Lug Valley, known for its lush landscapes and serene environment. The ropeway project is expected to invigorate local tourism, stimulate the economy, and create new opportunities for residents. By facilitating easier access, the project aims to attract both novice and seasoned paragliders to the region.

This development aligns with the state’s broader strategy to promote various forms of tourism, including adventure, religious, and water sports tourism. Recognizing tourism as a vital economic pillar, the government, under Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, is committed to enhancing tourist infrastructure and experiences.

A significant aspect of this strategy is the emphasis on eco-tourism. The government aims to offer tourists immersive experiences in the state’s natural beauty while ensuring the conservation of its rich biodiversity. This approach seeks to balance tourism growth with environmental sustainability, preserving natural resources for future generations.

Himachal Pradesh attracts approximately two crore visitors annually, drawn by its majestic mountains, pristine rivers, and diverse trekking opportunities. The introduction of the Kullu-Peej ropeway is anticipated to further boost these numbers by offering a unique vantage point of the region’s landscapes and enhancing the overall tourist experience.

The ropeway is also expected to alleviate traffic congestion on existing roads leading to Peej, providing a more comfortable journey for tourists. This improvement in infrastructure is likely to encourage longer stays and repeat visits, benefiting local businesses and communities.

In addition to paragliding, the enhanced accessibility to Peej and the Lug Valley opens up possibilities for other adventure activities such as trekking, mountain biking, and nature walks. The government’s investment in this project reflects its dedication to positioning Himachal Pradesh as a premier destination for adventure tourism in India.

As the project progresses, it is expected to create employment opportunities in construction, operations, and ancillary services. The local workforce will be instrumental in bringing this project to fruition, ensuring that the benefits of tourism development are shared within the community.

The Kullu-Peej ropeway project signifies a major advancement in Himachal Pradesh’s tourism infrastructure. By providing a direct and scenic route to one of the state’s most sought-after paragliding spots, the government is enhancing the appeal of Kullu as a must-visit destination for adventure seekers and nature lovers alike.
