In the wake of Pakistan’s early exit from the Champions Trophy 2025, former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh criticized Pakistani cricket legends, particularly Wasim Akram, for their outspoken remarks about the team’s performance. Singh suggested that instead of merely commenting, veterans like Akram should actively contribute to improving Pakistan cricket.
Responding to these critiques, Wasim Akram addressed the challenges and disrespect faced by former players who take up coaching roles in Pakistan. Without naming Singh directly, Akram highlighted the experiences of his former teammate, Waqar Younis, who has been appointed and subsequently dismissed from coaching positions multiple times. Akram emphasized that such treatment deters him from accepting official coaching roles, stating that while he is willing to assist and mentor players without compensation, he is unwilling to subject himself to the associated stress and disrespect.
