The incident occurred on a Tuesday afternoon at Dhadkan Bar & Restaurant, located on Vishweshwar Nagar Road in Goregaon East.

Escalating Tensions Lead to Fatal Confrontation

According to law enforcement officials, Devraj harbored suspicions that Raghu was instigating the bar owner against him. Additionally, Devraj believed that a customer’s assault on him was influenced by Raghu’s actions. These suspicions culminated in a fatal attack fueled by anger and mistrust.

Eyewitness Mahendra Karnaram Sen, a fellow employee at the bar, reported that minor disputes had been occurring between Devraj and Raghu over the past few days. On the day of the incident, while Raghu was asleep, Devraj allegedly attacked him with a sharp weapon, inflicting severe injuries. Fearing for his own safety, Sen fled the scene but promptly informed the authorities.

Immediate Response and Investigation

Upon receiving the distress call, the Vanrai police swiftly arrived at the scene and transported the critically injured Raghu to Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari. Despite medical efforts, Raghu succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit.

Following Raghu’s death, the police registered a case of murder against Devraj, who had absconded after the crime. Both the Vanrai police and the Crime Branch initiated a manhunt to locate and apprehend the suspect.

Apprehension of the Suspect

Acting on a tip-off received by Senior Police Inspector Raju Mane, authorities learned that Devraj was hiding in the Mahim area. A dedicated police team conducted surveillance in the Retibandar locality of Mahim and successfully detained Devraj.

During interrogation, Devraj confessed to the murder, attributing his actions to the belief that Raghu had been instigating both the bar owner and a regular customer against him. He admitted to attacking Raghu in his sleep with the intent to kill and subsequently fleeing to Mahim.

Legal Proceedings

The Vanrai police formally arrested Devraj following his confession. The police presented him before the court, which remanded him to custody for four days to facilitate further investigation.
