Mumbai: bracing for a significant rise in temperatures this week, with forecasts predicting maximum temperatures between 35°C and 38°C. On Tuesday, the Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 36.8°C, which is 3.8°C above normal, while Monday’s temperature was 35.3°C.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributes this rise to seasonal and atmospheric changes, including the development of a high-pressure zone and a halt in westerly winds. Starting March 5, maximum temperatures will fluctuate between 35°C and 38°C, while minimum temperatures will range from 19°C to 23°C over the next six days.
Historically, Mumbai’s March temperatures average between 26°C and 33°C, with minimal rainfall. This year’s early March temperatures have already surpassed these averages, indicating an unusually hot onset to the pre-monsoon summer.
Authorities advise residents to take necessary precautions against the heat by staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, and wearing appropriate clothing. The IMD will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
