A shooter associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, Yogesh alias Raju, has stirred political controversy by alleging that former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique had ties with notorious criminal Dawood Ibrahim.
Raju, arrested after an encounter with police in Mathura, remarked that Siddique’s involvement in criminal activities under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) led to his death. While these claims have not been verified, opposition leaders criticized the police for allowing Raju to make such statements publicly.
Siddique, a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was shot dead on October 12 outside his son Zeeshan’s office in Bandra, Mumbai. The case has seen several arrests, with police indicating connections to the Bishnoi-Hashim Baba gangs. Investigators are currently pursuing conspirators linked to the case, including Shubham Lonkar and Mohammed Zeeshan Akhtar, both of whom are on the run.
