Pakistan Train Hijack: BLA Militants Kill 50 Hostages in Deadly Attack

Breaking News

On March 11, 2025, militants from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) hijacked the Jaffar Express in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. The armed group executed 50 hostages before security forces launched a full-scale operation to end the crisis.

Militants Seize Jaffar Express, Kill Hostages

The Jaffar Express, traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, was ambushed near the Bolan district. The militants first detonated explosives on the railway track, forcing the train to stop. Armed gunmen then opened fire on security personnel before taking control of the train and its passengers.

BLA’s Demand and Execution of Hostages

The BLA, a separatist militant group, claimed responsibility for the hijacking. The group issued an ultimatum to the Pakistani government, demanding the release of jailed militants. In retaliation for the government’s inaction, the BLA announced that they had executed 50 hostages.

A BLA spokesperson stated, “Today, the enemy forces attempted an armed advance using heavy artillery and sophisticated weaponry, leading to intense clashes. In direct retaliation to Pakistan’s persistent aggression, the BLA has executed 50 additional captive enemy personnel within the past hour.”

Security Forces’ Rescue Operation

Pakistani security forces launched a large-scale operation to free the hostages. The rescue mission, which lasted several hours, involved ground troops and aerial surveillance. Reports suggest that over 300 hostages were successfully rescued. However, some captives were killed during the operation.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti confirmed casualties among both civilians and security personnel. “We have also suffered losses, but we will share details later,” he told the provincial assembly.

Pakistan and China Condemn Attack

The Pakistani government strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “cowardly act of terrorism.” Officials vowed to take further action against insurgent groups operating in the region.

China, a key ally of Pakistan, also denounced the attack. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated, “We strongly condemn this terrorist attack and stand against all forms of terrorism. China remains committed to strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation with Pakistan.”

Baloch Insurgency and Security Challenges

The BLA has been engaged in a long-running insurgency against the Pakistani government, citing grievances over political marginalization and resource exploitation in Balochistan. The group has carried out multiple attacks on infrastructure, security forces, and Chinese investments in the region.

The attack on the Jaffar Express highlights the ongoing security crisis in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. As the nation mourns the loss of innocent lives, authorities face mounting pressure to strengthen counter-terrorism measures and prevent future attacks.
