New Delhi, 9 May 2025 : Tensions between India and Pakistan War continue to escalate sharply as multiple drone sightings have been reported along the Line of Control (LoC) and the international border, triggering high alert across border states. According to defence sources, as many as 26 drone activities have been detected between Baramulla in Jammu & Kashmir and Bhuj in Gujarat, marking one of the most widespread and coordinated aerial intrusions in recent times.
Nation on High Alert
Security forces, including the Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF), and Indian Air Force (IAF), have been placed on the highest operational alert. Troop movements and air surveillance have intensified, especially across forward areas in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
Senior officials confirmed that the drones were detected using advanced radar and counter-drone systems. Most of them were flying at low altitudes during the late hours, a tactic often used to evade radar detection.
Confirmed Locations of Drone Sightings:
-
Jammu & Kashmir: Baramulla, Kupwara, Poonch, Rajouri
-
Punjab: Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ferozepur
-
Rajasthan: Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer
-
Gujarat: Kutch region, including Bhuj and border outposts
Authorities suspect a mix of surveillance and payload delivery attempts, with some drones potentially carrying arms, ammunition, or reconnaissance equipment. A few were neutralized by ground-based counter-UAV systems, while others returned across the border before interception.
Official Response and Preparedness
The Ministry of Defence is closely monitoring the situation in real-time. A source from South Block stated, “We are not taking this lightly. Any violation of airspace or cross-border aggression will be met with a calibrated and decisive response.”
The Indian Air Force has reportedly scrambled fighter jets in select sectors, while additional UAVs and helicopters have been deployed for real-time reconnaissance.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval are in continuous consultation with military commanders. Intelligence inputs suggest the activity may be part of a coordinated psychological and tactical operation by Pakistan-backed groups, aimed at testing India’s response mechanism.
Public Safety Measures
State governments in the border districts have urged residents to remain calm but vigilant. Night curfews have been reinforced in several sensitive areas, and villagers have been advised to avoid open movement after dark. All schools within a 5–10 km radius of the border will remain closed until further notice.
Escalation Context
This spike in drone activity comes amid an already volatile atmosphere, following artillery exchanges and ceasefire violations in recent weeks. It marks a dangerous shift in tactical warfare, with the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) now becoming a key component of cross-border provocations.
The Ministry of External Affairs is expected to issue a strong diplomatic demarche to Pakistan, demanding immediate cessation of hostile actions.
