Season 2 of Call Me Bae – Production, Story, Cast Interviews, and Release
Production Status and Timeline
Ananya Panday confirmed that Season 2 was in production around late 2024. Producer Karan Johar announced in September 2024 that a sequel was being developed.
On 28 October 2024, Ananya shared an Instagram Story of her on-set vanity van labeled “BAE”, captioned “Oh, she’s back back”, indicating that filming had begun.
Media outlets reported that day that “the second season of Call Me Bae has officially begun filming”. By mid-2025, however, the shoot was still pending: co-star Lisa Mishra told Bollywood Hungama “we are going to start filming this year for Call Me Bae Season 2.
Everyone is super excited to get back on the set…”, suggesting principal photography may take place later in 2025.
The first season of Call Me Bae was produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment, directed by Collin D’Cunha, and was released on Amazon Prime Video.
All indications are that Season 2 will follow a similar schedule (multi-episode shoot) and release platform.
Expected Storyline for Season 2
Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger, and Season 2 is expected to continue Bella “Bae” Chowdhary’s journey with new challenges.
Moneycontrol notes that Season 1 “ended on a cliffhanger, leaving fans eager to see how Bella would navigate her newfound reality after her family faced financial turmoil”.
According to this report, Season 2 will have Bella “tackling even more obstacles” as she builds a new life in Mumbai – learning that “success is not easily earned, and money doesn’t solve everything”.
The sequel is said to bring “even more drama, humor, and personal growth” for Bella as she matures from a pampered heiress into a more self-reliant woman.
Producer Karan Johar has hinted that the writers will “delve deeper into the characters and their stories,” promising that the new season “will be more Bae-misaal [unprecedented] than before”.
In other words, fans can expect to see Bella, and the ensemble around her, develop in richer ways than in Season 1.
Filmfare similarly reports that Season 2 “promises laughter, drama, and heartfelt moments,” suggesting the show will retain its mix of comedy and sentiment.
In summary, the storyline will pick up from the first season’s ending, focusing on Bella’s resilience and growth as she navigates post-revival life in Mumbai, with the tone remaining a lighthearted yet earnest dramedy.
Call Me Bae follows the journey of Bela “Bae” Chowdhary (played by Ananya Panday), a wealthy fashion-obsessed heiress who loses her privileged lifestyle overnight after a scandal rocks her elite family.
Once the darling of high society, Bae is cut off financially and forced to fend for herself for the first time ever.
Setting Off on Her Own: Thrown out of her comfort zone, Bae moves from luxury to reality, taking up a job at a digital news outlet in Mumbai. With no experience but loads of sass and resilience, she begins rebuilding her life—learning how to work, earn, and build real relationships beyond wealth.
Workplace Drama & New Friendships: At the news office, she crosses paths with an eclectic team including:
Harleen (Lisa Mishra) – a no-nonsense reporter with a strong moral compass.
Prince Bhasin (Varun Sood) – a charming co-worker with romantic sparks.
Other office staff played by Gurfateh Pirzada, Vihaan Samat, and Muskkaan Jaferi.
Their interactions are full of conflict, chemistry, and character growth as Bae transforms from a naive rich girl into a confident, independent woman.
Themes: Season 1 is a coming-of-age dramedy blending fashion, feminism, friendship, hustle, and identity. It explores privilege, reinvention, and the millennial experience of finding purpose beyond social media and status.
Cliffhanger Ending: The season ends with Bae making big strides personally and professionally—but just as things start looking up, an unexpected revelation throws her future into question, setting the stage for a dramatic Season 2.
Cast Interviews
Lisa Mishra (Harleen)
Lisa Mishra – who plays Harleen, a determined TV reporter in the series – has shared her excitement about Season 2 in interviews.
In a Bollywood Hungama exclusive (May 2025), she revealed that the cast has become very close and is itching to start shooting: “We are going to start filming this year for Call Me Bae Season 2. Everyone is super excited to get back on the set. We all became friends…Our director, Collin D’Cunha, did a great job as he left us an environment where everyone was equal and everyone ended up being friends”.
Lisa’s comments emphasize the cast’s enthusiasm and camaraderie; she added that “all of us are begging to be back on the sets”.
In a separate OTT play interview (September 2024), Lisa responded to the Season 2 announcement with frank delight.
Asked about the release date, she laughed that “no release date…we don’t even know what’s the story going to be. It will be fun finding out…we are very very lucky”. In other words, the team had not even begun scripting, and the speedy renewal was unexpected.
She called the success “very lucky” and said “I don’t think anyone anticipated it would grow to be this big and it would be loved so much”. These interviews show Lisa’s genuine excitement about returning, even as details are still being worked out.
Varun Sood (Prince Bhasin)
Varun Sood, who portrays Prince Bhasin, also spoke about the upcoming season (in an OTTplay interview, Sept 2024). Praising the show’s success and Ananya’s role as lead, Varun said “we have season two coming up very soon”.
He expressed gratitude that the audience loved the series, calling the project “made with a lot of love and passion.” Regarding Ananya Panday, Varun raved that “I love Ananya! …She’s a very good friend. The fact that as the lead of the show, she kept everybody together as a very good leader”.
He pointed out that at only 25, she has accomplished “phenomenal” things in her career and serves as a unifying presence on set. Varun’s comments highlight Ananya’s leadership and friendly rapport with the cast, and confirm that Season 2 is actively being planned.
Behind-the-Scenes Dynamics
The cast of Call Me Bae has emphasized the warm, collaborative atmosphere on set. Lisa Mishra described the set as highly egalitarian: director Collin D’Cunha “left us an environment where everyone was equal and everyone ended up being friends”.
Varun Sood similarly praised Ananya’s off-screen role: calling her “a very good friend” and a “very good leader” who “kept everybody together” during filming.
These remarks – from both the producer’s and co-actor’s perspectives – suggest the team bonded well and enjoyed working together.
Such behind-the-scenes camaraderie may bode well for Season 2, as the principal cast (including returning members like Gurfateh Pirzada, Vihaan Samat, Muskkaan Jaferi and others) reunites.
No official premiere date has been announced for Season 2. As of mid-2025, Lisa Mishra confirmed the production is still in early stages and the team “doesn’t even know what’s the story going to be”, much less a release date.
Observers expect Season 2 on the same platform as Season 1. Call Me Bae is an Amazon Prime Video series (Season 1 premiered 6 September 2024 on Prime Video), and Moneycontrol notes the show is “currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video”. Industry listings simply mark Season 2 as coming to Prime Video in 2025, with no fixed date yet.
In short, Season 2 will premiere on Amazon Prime Video, but the exact release date remains undecided pending production.
