Vodafone Idea is positioning itself for subscriber growth through aggressive network densification and a planned 5G rollout. In a recent interview, Chief Marketing Officer Avneesh Khosla outlined the company’s strategy to enhance its infrastructure and improve customer experience, aiming to reverse subscriber losses and compete effectively against rivals like Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel.
Khosla acknowledged the challenges posed by a lack of capital but emphasized that the company is actively addressing these issues. Over the past few months, Vodafone Idea has made significant strides in increasing network capacity across various regions. “We are eager to see our investments starting to hit the ground, enabling us to create the right kind of experience for our consumers,” Khosla stated, underscoring the importance of network quality in attracting and retaining customers.
To bolster its distribution network, Vodafone Idea plans to expand its retail footprint by establishing new brick-and-mortar stores, particularly in larger towns. This initiative targets high Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) segments and high net-worth individuals (HNI). “By increasing our presence in key markets, we aim to better serve our target consumers and capitalize on emerging opportunities,” Khosla added.
In the coming weeks, Vodafone Idea is expected to unveil new store locations, which will be crucial for enhancing customer interaction and experience. The company is also focused on network densification, adding more sites to improve service quality in underserved areas.
Looking ahead, Khosla highlighted the anticipated launch of 5G services, scheduled for March 2025 across 17 circles, starting with Delhi and Mumbai. The company aims to achieve 90% 4G coverage by June 2024. This expansion is supported by a recent equity funding of Rs 24,000 crore, primarily earmarked for strengthening 4G infrastructure and launching 5G.
“With the introduction of 5G technology, we are optimistic about achieving positive net subscriber growth, particularly as there is a segment of customers eager for this service,” Khosla concluded. As Vodafone Idea works to enhance its network capabilities, it seeks to establish a more competitive position in the dynamic Indian telecom market.
