kolkata: In a landmark event marking its Golden Jubilee Year, the National Institute of Homoeopathy (NIH), Kolkata, witnessed the inauguration of a new 400-seated Undergraduate Boys’ Hostel, enhancing its residential infrastructure for students. The facility was inaugurated by Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush and Minister of State, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
Also present at the event were Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for Education and DoNER; Shri Jyotirmay Singh Mahato, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Purulia; and senior officials from the Ministry of Ayush and NIH.
Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence in Homoeopathy
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Prataprao Jadhav expressed deep appreciation for NIH’s 50-year journey, calling it a symbol of service, dedication, and continuous excellence in homoeopathic education and healthcare.
“This Golden Jubilee is not just a milestone; it is a celebration of a vision that has empowered lives through holistic healing,” said the Minister.
He acknowledged NIH’s status as a Centre of Excellence, noting the institute’s consistent efforts in academics, research, and patient care. Emphasizing the timely completion of ongoing infrastructure projects, he said these are not just constructions but foundational investments into future-ready healthcare education and delivery.
Shri Jadhav also suggested that a dedicated alumni room be created on campus to allow former students to share their insights and contribute actively to NIH’s growth.
“As NIH enters its 51st year, I urge the students, faculty, alumni, and staff to dream big, work with dedication, and make this institution a global leader in knowledge, compassion, and innovation,” he concluded.
NIH: A National Pride and Embodiment of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’
Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, MoS for Education and DoNER, underlined NIH’s role as a symbol of India’s intellectual heritage and healthcare prowess, stating that:
“NIH is not only the pride of West Bengal but a living example of the Prime Minister’s vision of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.”
He commended the diverse student body that represents different parts of India, fostering unity through education. Dr. Majumdar praised NIH’s role in making healthcare more affordable and accessible, mentioning that the institute treats thousands of patients daily, including noteworthy cases like cancer through homeopathy.
He further urged for interdisciplinary collaborations and stronger research ecosystems, expressing hope that NIH will soon gain global recognition for its work in evidence-based homoeopathy.
Local Leaders Praise NIH’s Impact
Shri Jyotirmay Singh Mahato, MP from Purulia, shared his personal appreciation for homeopathic care, stating that he himself receives treatment from an NIH alumnus. He noted that the institute serves patients not only from Bengal but also from neighboring states, reinforcing its national reach.
NIH Director Reaffirms Commitment to Holistic Care
In his welcome address, the Director of NIH highlighted the significance of the moment:
“This is not just an inauguration—it is a long-cherished dream realized.”
He proudly stated that NIH serves nearly 3,000 patients per day, underlining the faith the public has in homoeopathy and the institute’s clinical capabilities. The Director reiterated the commitment to making NIH a true Centre of Excellence in homoeopathy, research, and integrated healthcare.
“NIH is not merely an institution; it is a sentiment, a family, a movement—an unwavering resolve to serve humanity,” he concluded.
