Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Engages with Groundnut Farmers in Gujarat, Reviews Advanced Farming Techniques: July 2025

Gujarat, 19 July 2025 — In a proactive outreach to India’s farming community, Union Minister of Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, visited Manekvada village in Junagadh, Gujarat, to meet and interact with groundnut farmers. This engagement was part of the minister’s ground-level assessment of agricultural practices and innovations being adopted by cultivators in the region.

Hands-On Engagement with Farmers

Demonstrating solidarity with India’s agricultural workforce, Shri Chouhan personally joined farmers in their fields, participating in the weeding and hoeing of groundnut crops. He engaged in detailed discussions on seed quality, the use of fertilisers, irrigation challenges, and production techniques, while listening to farmers’ concerns about seasonal difficulties and market dynamics.

Focus on Girnar-4 and Agricultural Innovation

A key highlight of the visit was the minister’s interest in Gujarat’s high-yield groundnut variety, ‘Girnar-4.’ Shri Chouhan sought in-depth information on this variety from agricultural officials and farmers, noting its potential for enhancing crop productivity.

The Union Minister also inspected modern agricultural equipment including drones and precision farming tools. He interacted with farmers to understand their feedback on the effectiveness, accessibility, and operational ease of these technologies.



Government’s Commitment to Farmers

Commending the resilience and dedication of farmers, Shri Chouhan stated, “Our food providers play an invaluable role in ensuring the nation’s food security. The government is committed to standing by them and resolving their issues at every step.”

This visit underscores the Ministry’s continued emphasis on technological advancement, farmer-centric policies, and strengthening agricultural productivity across the country.
