While Navratri is often synonymous with the vibrant garba nights and energetic dandiya dances, for renowned artistic director and choreographer Sumit Khetan, it holds a deeper, more spiritual significance. The founder of Sumit Khetan Entertainment may be celebrated for his dazzling choreography, but during Navratri, his heart and soul are dedicated to a timeless tradition—Ramleela.

“I’ve been performing Ramleela since I was 7, long before my professional journey as a dancer, choreographer, or director began,” says Khetan. His connection to this religious performance has remained unwavering over the years, and for him, Navratri is not just about celebration but about devotion.

Despite the global craze for garba, which he also enjoys, Sumit prioritizes Ramleela during the nine-day festival. “Garba is one of my favorites too,” he admits, “but Ramleela gives me a spiritual connection I can’t ignore. It brings me peace that lasts the entire year.”

Khetan’s commitment is so deep that he sets aside all professional work during Navratri, focusing solely on Ramleela. This sacred tradition, for him, is more than a performance—it’s a spiritual practice that grants him inner tranquility. “For these 9 days, performing Ramleela gives me 365 days of peace of mind,” he reflects.

As Navratri approaches, Sumit Khetan’s dedication to this devotional journey serves as a reminder that festivals are not just about celebration—they are about tradition, spirituality, and the deeper connections that bring us peace.
