Patna, Bihar | PM-Kisan  — In a grand event organized in the heart of Bihar’s capital on the auspicious occasion of Sawan, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, addressed a large gathering of farmers during the release of the 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Yojana. The ceremony, attended by thousands of farmers and several senior dignitaries, underscored the Centre’s unwavering focus on farmer-centric development.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sinha, Cooperation Minister Shri Prem Kumar, and other prominent officials were present at the venue, celebrating the government’s continued commitment to empowering the farming community.

₹3.77 Lakh Crore Transferred So Far to Farmers’ Accounts

Addressing the audience, Shri Chouhan announced that over ₹3.77 lakh crore has been directly deposited into farmers’ bank accounts through the PM-KISAN scheme since its inception, using Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to ensure transparency and eliminate leakages. The 20th installment alone saw over ₹20,000 crore being transferred to lakhs of farming families across India, offering a crucial boost to their income and livelihood security.

“Earlier, when ₹1 was sent by the government, only a few paise reached the farmers. Today, with DBT, the entire amount goes directly to the farmers,” the Minister said, highlighting the transformation in governance.

Celebrating Bihar’s Agrarian Legacy

Shri Chouhan also paid tribute to Bihar’s rich cultural, historical, and agricultural heritage. He described the state as a land sanctified by Lord Buddha and blessed by the Ganges, further glorified by Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagraha, which became a turning point in India’s freedom movement.

Applauding the hardworking spirit of Bihar’s farmers, he especially recognized the significant presence and contributions of women farmers at the event. “Your legacy of knowledge and industriousness is unparalleled,” he noted.

Makhana Cultivation and Agricultural Innovation

Highlighting Bihar’s pioneering role in Makhana production, Shri Chouhan emphasized the importance of value-added agriculture. He spoke about the Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Yojana, which aims to improve agricultural productivity, particularly in low-yield areas, and the government’s efforts to connect agricultural research with grassroots practices.

He assured the gathering of timely availability of fertilizers and pesticides, as well as adequate compensation for crop loss under multiple government schemes. He also underlined the reforms under Minimum Support Price (MSP), stating that 50% profit is now added to the production cost, ensuring better price realization for farmers.

“Farmers Are at the Heart of the Government’s Vision”

Reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, Shri Chouhan said, “Farming must be profitable. The welfare of farmers is not just a policy—it is a mission.” He assured continued government efforts to improve irrigation, ensure market access, promote agri-tech innovation, and empower small and marginal farmers.

The event concluded with a pledge to uphold the dignity of India’s farming community and to ensure that every farmer receives the support they need to grow, thrive, and contribute to India’s progress.
